Step 4: Best Practices

A JOURNEY FROM CARE TO PRAYER

Everyone has a different starting place and comfort level sharing their faith. One of the easiest ways to get rolling is to simply demonstrate God’s Kindness in a practical way. Over time we encourage you to take a next step and eventually would like you to feel strong in all the Kindness Outreach practices expressed below.

Care: Empowered Servant

doing a Humble Empowered Act to Kindness. Person of Peace Receiving Humble Empowered Act Experiencing the Tilt (God Moment) “People don’t care how much you know till they know how much you care.”

Share Why are we doing this?

“We are here just showing God’s love in a practical way. We think that if Jesus were walking around town today he be doing practical things for people – not just talking.” “For example, we wash cars sometimes to show a bit of God’s love. Jesus washed feet, but feet are generally pretty clean these days. On the other hand, cars aren’t usually quite as clean as we like them to be.”

Prayer: 10 Second Prayer

Listen to God while chatting with the Person of Peace and then ask, “May I pray for you for just 10 seconds? Sometimes good things happen in prayer.” Who doesn’t want to be prayed for? As it turns out, almost everybody is open for a spot of prayer.

Share: What God has done in my life

People want to know of the reality of what God can do with life – not the theory only. They specifically would love to hear what is happening your life. No need for going into all sorts of elaborate detail other than to say something along these lines: “I was going this direction in life, I had encounter with God, and now going a different direction. Now I am moving toward life instead of the other direction.”

Prayer: “Here I am”

Sometimes a “Come to Jesus” prayer is a crossing the finish line if you will. On other occasions, it’s more a matter of nudging them forward toward crossing the line to follow Christ through a prayer. To pray “Here I am” is a fitting prayer for either occasion. Some people are “ripe” for coming to Jesus quite yet. They may be a little on the green side if you will. You and I cannot make a not quite ripe fruit ready for harvesting – that’s the job of the Holy Spirit. Your invitation in mind is to scatter seeds like crazy and see what comes of it by the power of God’s presence.

Practices | Deep Dive

  1. Care: an empowered servant doing a humble empowered act of kindness with a person of peace who receives a humble empowered act experiences a Tilt (a Holy Spirit connection which causes an experiential mind shift).“People don’t care how much you know till they know how much you care”
  2. Share why are we doing this?
“We are showing you God’s love in a practical way. We think that if Jesus were walking around town today he would be loving people in a practical way.  For example, we wash cars to show God’s love.  Jesus washed feet, but feet are generally pretty clean these days.  On the other hand, cars aren’t usually quite as clean as we like them to be.”
  3. Prayer: 10 Second Prayer
Who doesn’t want to be prayed for?  Almost everybody is open for a brief simple prayer.  Listen to the Holy Spirit while chatting with the person then ask, “May I pray for you for just 10 seconds?  Sometimes good things happen as we pray after we listen to the Holy Spirit.”.
  4. Share: What God has done in my life (My God Story)
People want to know of the reality of what God can do, has done for you – not the theology of God only.  Most people would love to hear your story, and what is happening in your life.  There is no need for going into an elaborate detail of your life other than to say something along these lines: “I was going this direction, I was ______ (sad, depressed, a drug user, hater, immoral etc.).  I had and encounter with Jesus and now I’m going in a different direction.  Now I am moving toward life instead of the other direction.”
  5. Prayer: “Here I am”
Sometimes a “Come to Jesus” prayer is crossing the finish line if you will. On other occasions, it’s more a matter of nudging them forward toward crossing the line to follow Christ through a prayer.  To ask the person to pray, “Here I am” is a great starting prayer.  Some people are not ripe” for coming to Jesus quite yet. They may be a little on the green side, so to speak.  You and I cannot make a not quite ripe person ready for harvesting – that’s the job of the Holy Spirit. Our role is to scatter and water the seed – then to see what is growing by the power of God’s presence.
